My research interests are centered around Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and Business Process Management (BPM). More precisely I am interested in minimizing the gap between a model of a business process and the actual IT implementation of the business process model.

The vision of my project is to heighten the level of abstraction when developing an implementation of a business process so the model of the business process becomes the primary development artifact, and the IT implementation is generated from the business process model.

There are many complications to be solved before this vision can be reached. Some will say it is impossible and it is just the CASE scenario from the 80'ies all over again, which did not succeed. Nevertheless I believe that it is possible to reach the vision, but it may take several years, and there may be many partially steps on the way. It is my job over the next 3 years to prove, that my research can get us on the path against the vision, and if it does not bring us all the way, then at least partially. The research will also come up with guidance to how the vision can be reached and what the requirements are for the tool vendors, languages, transformers, diverse standards, and the specific enterprises who are modelling and implementing their business processes.

Prior to this project I worked for three years as a developer at Danske Bank implementing a large Workflow Management system and tools to support developing workflows. Workflows are the physical IT implementation of a business process. In the project I realised how big the gap is between specified business process models and the actual implemented workflows. This gap gave my the idea to initiate this Industrial PhD project, which is a joint venture between Danske Bank and the IT Uni-versity of Copenhagen.
