Gisela Eckhardt, PhD. Gisela received her PhD in physics from Frankfurt University. In 1962, while a researcher at Hughes Laboratories in Malibu, she invented the Raman laser and became the first person to explain its physical mechanism – one of the biggest breakthroughs in laser physics since the discovery of the laser itself, with many scientific and technological applications.
